The Quiet Quarter
In a home where space was once underutilised, our client recognised an opportunity to create something truly special: a private guest suite designed to offer family members a welcoming retreat during extended stays. The brief was simple yet ambitious — to craft an open-plan sanctuary that combined sleeping, living, and dining areas, while providing ample storage for a home-away-from-home experience. The existing ground-floor bedroom, with large sliding doors opening directly onto the pool and street-facing windows, lacked the privacy required for guests. By relocating the doors to the quieter, more secluded side of the house, we transformed what was once an exposed, open space into an intimate retreat. A high-level window was introduced to flood the room with natural light, ensuring it feels open and airy, yet still protected and private. We then added a compact kitchenette and a small built-in dining area, while the lounge space was carefully positioned to invite relaxation. The bed, placed beneath the high-level window, offers a tranquil view while maintaining the privacy the family sought for their guests. A small dressing area positioned in front of the en-suite adds much-needed storage, completing the guest suite's sense of comfort and functionality. This project is a testament to how small, thoughtful interventions can transform an underused space into a beautifully functional and private retreat.
